Curated by Neptune Chapotin, The World Harps Collection is the result of the last twenty years of passion for traveling, playing, and promoting a marvelously unique musical instrument called the Mouth Harp.
Played in front of the mouth resting on either the teeth or the lips, this little instrument is also known by over a thousand different names in every language of the world, i.e. Jew’s Harp, Jaw Harp, Guimbarde, Doromb, Vargan, Khomus, Danmoi, Maultrommel, Karinding, Marranzano, Scacciapensieri, Morchang, Morsing, Morchunga, Parmupill, Harpa de Boca, or Berimbau de Boca just to name a few!
World Harps – Mouth Harps from Around the World ™ is the fruit of Neptune’s travels.
Buying, selling, and distributing Mouth Harps since 2003, Neptune’s personal quest is to locate and visit each of the master makers of Mouth Harps around the world one by one.
His mission is to explore the various cultures and traditions of Mouth Harp making in each country, all while discovering and documenting the individual stories and techniques of each Mouth Harp maker.
Through his writings and posts on social media about his journeys and experiences here at World Harps, Neptune establishes a link of awareness between the essence of the master behind each hand-crafted Mouth Harp, and those who will ultimately play and love their instruments.
Neptune is a third-culture kid of French/American descent born in India, and he typically spends five to seven months each year traveling, performing, teaching, collecting, and meeting Mouth Harp makers. Whenever he is not traveling, he returns to his home base in Goa, India.
Over the last thirteen years up until 2022, Neptune used to be found every single weekend between November to April, standing over the World Harps Table in the Night Markets of Goa.
After Covid initially disrupted the local tourism in Goa, World Harps expanded instead into an online experience with worldwide shipping, currently operating exclusively out of the World harps Instagram and Facebook pages.
Maintaining separate stocks of #TheWorldHarpsCollection in three different countries, Neptune makes sure to be able to continue fulfilling orders while traveling from either India, USA, or France.
